Guernsey Electricity has extended its prepayment friendly times over Christmas and the New Year to ensure that any pre-pay meters, which are pay-as-you-go and need to be topped up, won’t automatically disconnect if they run out of credit.
‘We know islanders have a lot of things to remember ahead of the festive season and so often forget to top up before the shops shut on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It’s a time of celebration and so we don’t want anyone to find themselves without electricity, especially if they are in the middle of cooking the all important Christmas dinner,’ said Guernsey Electricity communications manager Clare Packman.
‘Our friendly times mean that if the credit runs out when its not possible to top-up, the meter will stay on and any debts on the electricity account will need to be repaid when the householder tops up again.’
The friendly times, which can also be found on the Guernsey Electricity website and through its Facebook and Twitter profiles, are from noon on Christmas Eve until 9am on 28th December, from 4.30pm until 9am the next morning on 28th, 29th and 30th December and from 12pm on New Year’s Eve until 9am on 3rd January.
