Project Description

GF1 is Guernsey Electricity's project to install a subsea cable directly from France to Guernsey.

The Guernsey France One (GF1) project is led by Guernsey Electricity Ltd, on behalf of CIEG, the Channel Islands Electricity Grid. It will consist of a 90 kV cable, a new substation on Guernsey, and connections into the electricity grids at each end.

The project is being jointly developed by Guernsey Electricity and Réseau de Transport d'Electricite (RTE). The land route in France will be developed, permitted and installed by RTE.

The approximate length of the marine cable will be 54 km. The entire cable will route approximately 81.5km, between the electrical substation at Tollevast on the Cotentin peninsula in France, and Guernsey.

Notes

  1. Lengths are based on L’Ancresse/Sciotot/Tollevast and are approximate and subject to survey, route engineering permission and other developments.
  2. There will be some overlap in responsibilities concerning scope, which will be defined as the project progresses, e.g. it is likely that GEL will own the plant at the RTE substation, but it will be maintained by RTE.
