Guernsey Electricity News and Press Releases

09/11/2007 GEL provides premises for Cheshire Home Charity Shop

Guernsey Electricity has come to the aid of the Guernsey Cheshire Home by providing a rent free home for its charity shop.

The shop, which until recently was located in temporary premises in the Lower Pollet, will move to the company’s former Repair and Care centre at Northside at the end of the month.

The charity needs to raise a substantial amount each month to meet the running costs of the home, and the shop provides a much-needed source of funds. It is run by volunteers and sells clothes, books and bric-a-brac, and in the past six months has been very successful.

Eileen Collins, a spokesperson for the shop, said the charity was very grateful for Guernsey Electricity’s support.

‘The new premises will be excellent, the display area is bigger than our last store, and it is very bright and cheerful. Guernsey Electricity couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming with the move,’ she said.

‘Hopefully by moving to the bridge we will get new customers and broaden our support.’

Guernsey Electricity managing director Ian Watson said the company was happy to offer assistance to the Cheshire Home.

‘The Guernsey Cheshire Home provides an invaluable service to the community, and it is a pleasure to be in a position to offer assistance to such a worthwhile cause,’ he said.

‘I hope that the success which they have achieved in the Pollet will be continued and with any luck improved on in the new location.’

The shop launch is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 27 November, when it will be stocked with Christmas decorations, and selling new Christmas goods as well as their usual items.

‘The volunteers are taking a week off for a well earned break having given freely and generously of their time for the last six months,’ said Mrs Collins.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the shop can call Sheila De Carteret on 07781 441159.
