31/08/2006 Guernsey Electricity boosts BBC MRI scanner appeal

GUERNSEY Electricity is hoping to boost funds for the BBC MRI scanner appeal by donating money raised through calendar sales.

For the past few years Guernsey Electricity has produced and distributed calendars free of charge to the general public. The calendar, which features images of local scenes, has proved so popular that many individuals have sent it overseas as a Christmas present.

As more people started to ask for additional calendars Kelly Marquand, Cashier at Guernsey Electricity, had the idea of asking people to donate £1 for every extra copy they collected and donate the proceeds to a local charity.

Managing Director of Guernsey Electricity, Ian Watson, said:

'It is a lovely publication and many of our customers had started to send it to friends and family overseas. I thought, as it was obviously so popular, people wouldn't mind donating a £1 towards a local charity for any extra they asked for. It has been a very successful venture and we are really pleased to have raised the sum we have.'

The calendar is compiled and produced by former employee Max Harrison who retired in 2001 after 31 years of service to the firm. The publication comprises of 13 different images taken in and around Guernsey all of which were taken by Mr Harrison.

'I have always been a keen photographer and it is very rewarding to see my photographs used in the Guernsey Electricity calendar. I think the idea of asking for donations for the calendar is an excellent idea and certainly the end result has been gratifying,' said Mr Harrison.
