Guernsey Electricity News and Press Releases

29/09/2008 Electricity price increases below those of other fuels

ELECTRICITY prices in Guernsey have not risen as much as other fuels as a result of the increases in global energy prices.

And although customers in most other European countries have recently seen significantly above-inflation hikes in their bills, local electricity tariffs have not increased since April 2007.

Between 2000 and 2008, electricity prices rose by 27%, which is below the increases in other fuels.

However up until January 2005, local electricity customers had not had a tariff increase for 14 years.

Guernsey Electricity managing director Ian Watson said the price of oil for on-island generation and the cost of importing from the European Grid had both risen significantly since 2007. However to date these additional costs have been not been passed on to customers.
