When Gordon Crabb, Roy Clarkson and Eddie Dragun joined Guernsey Electricity, The Beatles were top of the pops, Harold Wilson had just become UK Prime Minister and England had not yet won the World Cup. Four decades later the trio were among 11 Guernsey Electricity employees whose contribution was recently marked by long service awards. Between them, they have clocked up more than 300 years with the company. The three recipients of the 40 year awards all joined the company in 1965. Contracts supervisor Gordon Crabb started as an electrical apprentice, and control room operator Roy Clarkson as a mechanical apprentice. Meter reading controller Eddie Dragun joined as storeman. The trio have joined a select band of Guernsey Electricity employees who have been with the company for more than 40 years. The longest serving is Dave Sarchet, who recently marked 46 years’ service, while Chris Ozanne, Norman Gill, Ray Gauvain and Dave Budge also reached the milestone. Guernsey Electricity managing director Ian Watson said the company was proud of the achievements of its staff and recognised the importance of their commitment. ‘All our staff are a credit to the company. It is a great thing to be able to say we have so many long serving staff members, and the knowledge and experience that they bring to Guernsey Electricity is invaluable,’ he said. Other recipients of long service awards were Dave Roussel, Colin Hubert, John Vaudin, John Spoelstra, Chris Dawes and Dave Elliston, all of whom have completed 30 years with Guernsey Electricity, and Kelly Marquand and Sally-Ann David who have both completed 10 years.
