(Appendix 2) Worked Examples of Connection Charges

CALCULATION OF CONNECTION CHARGES

Application of the connection charges principles is summarised by the decision tree shown as Figure 1.

In calculating the actual costs based upon the condition of the network at the time of application, standard worksheets are used, of which examples are attached.

In examining the worksheets presented, users should note that:

  • I. Equipment, excavation and construction costs used in connection charge calculations are the actual costs to GE, without any additional mark up.
  • II. The engineering time allowance of 10% covers the design time used.

The worked examples use approximate costs only which are subject to continuous variation and should not be taken to be representative of those to be presented on a connection charge quotation. GE will be pleased to prepare estimates of connection charges once sufficient detail of a proposed project is known.

Users requiring a quotation for connection charges should contact GE, using the contact mechanisms identified in Appendix 1.

The process leading to a quotation will be as follows;

  • 1. The user will define the nature of the usage, the location and the power demand expected.
  • 2. GE will consider the network and define the most cost-effective way of meeting the requirement. It is expected that there may be a number of iterations of these steps.
  • 3. Once the full power requirements can be accurately specified GE will prepare a connection cost quotation. A maximum of 15 working days should be allowed for the preparation.
  • 4. Users wishing to accept the quotation and proceed with the connection should make payment of the deposit or full payment in accordance with the standard conditions.
