Cut your heating bill
What is it that's making my heating bills so high?
Heat loss.
If you're looking for some easy, low-cost ways to cut down your heating bill, there's a few simple home hacks that could make all the difference. And if you do have extra budget, why not look into some property insulation options to really make a dent in those savings.
Let's talk about home heating hacks
Warm air inside your house will actively seek out any cold spots or gaps around your property, so it's best to plug them up as soon as possible. It sounds too easy but really is worth the effort!
Why not try draught defenders, window pelmets - or simply close your curtains as early as possible.
Got solid flooring like hard wood or laminate? This could be conducting heat away from your home.
Something as simple as a winter rug will help cut down heat loss and save you money.
The attic can get really cold, and without attic floor insulation, that cold air will be making it's way down to your nice cosy rooms. Your heating system will need to work really hard to keep your home warm as it battles against this cold air.
Simply add in some inexpensive loft insulation to keep the cold air out.
Cold air will enter your home through your chimney. If you've got a disused chimney, simply pop a draught excluder inside it.
Or if you still use your chimney, insert a chimney cap to keep cold air from changing hands with your home heat.
Sounds too simple? Heat can get trapped behind furniture which prevents it from circulating around the room properly. By moving furniture away from your radiators, you'll stop wasting so much heat.
Are your pipes or hot water tanks hot to touch? Then they're wasting heat and need to be covered.
Pipe lagging is also essential in cold attics to stop them from bursting when the weather gets cold.
Windows can get really cold, and when warm air makes contact with these cold windows, heat gets lost. Then you'll get a draught of cold air in your room instead.
Cover the windows as early as possible to keep the rooms cosy and efficient for as long as you can.
Do you have any radiators on exterior walls? You could be losing more need heat than you need to.
Just reflect that heat back into the room again to keep saving on your heat energy bills.
