Our Environmental Vision is “to make a positive contribution to our island environment for today and for the benefit of future generations”. We want to support our Island community and environment.
In 2020, we published our Climate Change Statement, revised our 5-year Environmental Sustainability Strategy, and committed to achieving ISO14001:2015 certification of our Environmental Management System (EMS).
To support these and spread the positive energy wider, we're launching the Power to the people fund to provide funding or support for local projects, initiatives or charities that benefit the environment and local community.
Twice a year, applications are welcomed for initiatives and projects that support our Environmental Sustainability Strategy pillars that support the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
What sort of projects or initiatives should apply?
-Locally based initiatives, charities or projects.
-Initiatives, charities or projects that benefit the environment and wider community. The beneficiary cannot be an individual or small group of individuals.
-Events, initiatives, projects and groups with a cause and brand that resonates with the four pillars of Guernsey Electricity’s 5 year Environmental Sustainability Strategy:
Affordable and clean energy
Climate Action
Healthy ecosystems
Education, awareness and skills
These pillars in turn support the following United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals:
Applicants can be individuals or organisations. Organisations that can apply for funding include, but are not limited to, charities, community groups, unincorporated associations, co-operatives, schools, social enterprises and amateur sports clubs
Individuals that apply must be based in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Organisations that apply must either be based or managed locally in the Bailiwick of Guernsey
Applications from individuals and organisations that have previously received funding from the Power to the People Fund will be considered on their merits.

Twice a year, Guernsey Electricity will invite applications for a maximum of £6,000 project funding and present any submissions and requests to Guernsey Electricity’s Environmental Initiatives Group to ensure the proposed projects support and align with the 4 pillars of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Environmental Management System.
Applications for financial help will be accepted as well as applications for donation of our time and skills. Each application requires a justification of how the project benefits the environment and local community, as detailed below.
Guernsey Electricity will have a discretion as to the extent to which, if all, it may consider and approve any application for funding which exceeds £6,000.
Shortlisted applicants may be contacted by Guernsey Electricity’s Communications team to discuss the project and arrange a visit if appropriate.
