Don’t forget – the clocks fall back one hour

The clocks will 'fall' back an hour on Sunday 27th October 2024. So, don’t forget to change ALL your clocks – including your boiler and heating – before you head to bed.

The good news is that your electricity meter is designed to automatically update with the correct time. But it’s simple to check it yourself.

All you need to do is press the button on your meter, which will be either green or orange, and scroll through the display options until you see the date and time.

Please check the time on your meter is correct as this will impact your low-rate time bands. If they are not correct, please call us on 01481 200700 so we can arrange for your meter to be updated.

Guernsey Electricity has also produced a simple guide to reading your meter, which you can find here

Top tip - use your appliances between 11pm and 5am to use 100% imported low-carbon electricity. And, this low-rate electricity will cost you over 50% less than earlier in the day if you're on the Super Economy 12 Tariff.

Make sure your heating system and boilers are all set to the updated time too.

Did you know?

On 30th April 1916, Germany embraced daylight saving time to conserve electricity. Weeks later, the United Kingdom followed suit and introduced “summer time.”

According to History.com, Germany was the first country to do this. It took World War I for Englishman William Willett’s dream to come true that the UK should move its clocks forward by 80 minutes between April and October.
