Future Electricity Prices

We've asked Island Global Research to independently conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf to help guide future electricity tariffs and have your opinions shared with the States of Guernsey.

Take part in an important survey that will be shared with the States of Guernsey to influence future electricity pricing decisions, including the future of the standing charge.

Island-wide electricity survey

Guernsey Electricity is listening on the future of services and tariff pricing

Local market research agency, Island Global Research (IGR) has been commissioned to gather your thoughts and analyse feedback on how Guernsey Electricity Limited (GEL) can evolve its electricity tariffs in the future.

From 4th-24th September, their survey will be open to all Guernsey Electricity customers and is a great opportunity for you to share your views, participate in, and shape the future of electricity on the island.

Who determines future electricity pricing decisions?

Guernsey Electricity's sole shareholder, the States Trading Supervisory Board (STSB), decide on our island's electricity pricing.

The STSB is a committee of the States of Guernsey, and its main role is to act as the shareholder for a number of the island's essential trading companies and to oversee other government-owned trading entities.

Topics explored within the survey include:

  • Motivations for changing the way and times that you use electricity,
  • Areas that Guernsey Electricity should prioritise (such as affordability and progress towards the net zero ambitions of the States’ Electricity Strategy),
  • Potential digitalisation of Guernsey Electricity products and services in the future.

Why is this survey necessary?

We need to make sure tariffs meet our customers needs and the States of Guernsey electricity strategy. Before we start thinking about those changes, we need to understand what the island wants and needs. This will help us with the growing population and the electrification of heating and transport. We want to understand what our customers want from our tariffs, while they stay reflective of the cost of generating and supplying energy on Guernsey.

The survey is being run independently by Island Global Research and those taking part also have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of two prizes of £100 worth of vouchers for local business.

"Our message to our customers is – we are listening. This survey provides an opportunity to provide feedback on the products and tariffs we offer in the future. We would like to hear from everyone, regardless of how informed or concerned you feel about the issues, so please do take the time to participate.” Gareth Wordingham, Customer, Product and Innovation Lead at Guernsey Electricity

In connection with the research, Lindsay Jefferies, Managing Director for Island Global Research, said:

Island Global Research are bringing independent expertise to this survey that we are conducting on behalf of Guernsey Electricity. Our role encompasses data collection, analysis and reporting to ensure that the results truly and fairly reflect views from across the population. We would like to thank everyone who takes this opportunity to provide feedback to this impartially conducted piece of research.”

It's time to let us know what you think

The survey window is only open until Wednesday 24th September.

After the survey closes, Island Global Research will be collating and analysing results, for publication later in the year.
