What is Off-Peak Storage Heating?
Use your cheap times to heat your home. Just like a battery, off-peak storage heating banks the cheapest, cleanest electricity overnight for you to use the next day.
Which as a result saves money and cuts carbon emissions.
How is it different?
Most heating systems work in real time – as soon as you switch on, it’ll burn through its power supply there and then. When we all switch on electric heating at the same time, we create a ‘peak’ in energy demand, and during winter this needs to be satisfied using fossil-fuels at the Vale power station.
Off-peak heating stores energy overnight for you to use the next day. That’s a heating system and a battery, all in one.
As less people use electricity overnight, this is when we can rely on 100% low-carbon electricity imported from the European grid via a subsea cable.
So why not heat with sunshine, wind and water instead.
What’s the catch?
Off-Peak storage heating can be expensive to install. But for some, expensive once beats expensive forever. So why not go electric and run your heating for less.
