We bring life to life. So could you.

If you’re done with low-purpose grind, perhaps it’s time your day job actively contributed to a cleaner, healthier, more sustainable place to live here in Guernsey.

Now we’re fully accepting the sprint into 2026, the air is tinged with a cool salinity, sea swims are biting, and your phone is buzzing with aspirational alerts for the new year. You’ve vowed to eat healthier, read more, and finally find that job which makes you feel energised – not something that simply pays bills, but actively helps build a better tomorrow.

If history is any guide, the gym memberships may peter out, those books could studiously collect dust, and your career aspirations – the resolution that could be truly life changing – might stall because you’re relying on the same job searches as yesterday.

Guernsey Electricity isn’t just the brand on your energy bill. As one of the largest employers in Guernsey, we’re a hive of diverse people and personalities pulling together the expertise needed to bring a secure, cleaner future to our island.

Let’s catch up with a few of them.

Kita Smith - Communications and Marketing Assistant

A big part of my day job is finding creative ways to help people learn more about who we are, and all that goes on behind the light switch. Let’s face it – few people really think about what keeps their modern life running (until there’s a power cut!). I honestly sometimes wish everyone could spend a week here as it really gives you a whole new appreciation for the work that goes into it all.

One of my favourite parts is getting a behind-the- scenes look at what’s going on across the many departments of GEL. Ultimately, we do a lot here at GEL, which means there’s a lot of content to capture – which I love!

Charlie Setters - Accounts Payable Invoice Officer

I’m here to make sure we pay the many, many suppliers GEL has to run as an electricity provider.

Another part of my role is keeping on top of other department’s orders to make sure they’re up to date and paid on time, which means a large part of my job is communication.

Although I work with a lot of numbers and emails, which I enjoy, I do also love communicating with the rest of the business as the departments here are so varied.

From engineers in the power station, to technicians working on the roads, corporate office support across IT, HR, health and safety, customer service and projects, to streetlight technicians and facility managers.

Lauren Ferneyhough - Apprentice Jointer

If ever you’ve seen GEL working around the island, for example on a road closure, there could well be a jointer working inside one of the excavated trenches. Jointing is where we securely connect two or more lengths of (sometimes high-voltage) electrical cable to create a continuous and reliable flow of electricity, while also providing insulation and mechanical protection.

GEL has supported me in many ways during my apprenticeship. There’s an excellent training programme, colleague mentorship, and a supportive community. Plus, I’ve got people on my side who genuinely want to see me succeed.

Skye Gardner - Apprentice Plumber

I went through all the trades available on the ‘Links’ program offered by The Guernsey Institute and, in the end, I went for plumbing as I enjoyed that the most. It was all thanks to this program that I discovered I could do something I enjoy and get paid for it.

Since I started my apprenticeship at Guernsey Electricity I’ve learned so many new things and picked up loads of valuable skills that in the past may have only been available to men. I’ve learned plumbing isn’t all about fixing taps and toilets and there’s lots of things to get involved in, particularly when the need for plumbers in Guernsey is so high.

Kelly Tavender - Project Manager

I chose to work for Guernsey Electricity to get to the heart of working towards a sustainable future and feel proud knowing my day job is helping us move towards a net-zero future.

I work on projects such as renewing essential electricity network equipment, updating generation equipment at the Vale power station, and upgrade projects to transition our network into the 21st century which pushes Guernsey towards a more efficient, sustainable future.
