Our paid additional load service is here to help islanders with their applications for additional power, whether you're planning to install an electric vehicle charger, electric heating, induction hob, or a hot tub in the near future. Plus we can also provide heat-loss calculations to make sure you get the right heating system for your property. Choose from tailored packages to set you up for safe, compliant, and future-ready upgrades

Check if your property has the available power to have a new electrical solution before you pick a product.

We're here to help.

If you're planning to install something that uses a lot of electricity - such as an induction hob, an electric vehicle charger, electric heating, or a hot tub - you or your installer will need to send an Additional Load Form (or an 'ALF') to Guernsey Electricity.

If you're an electrician or contractor looking to submit a regular ALF for a customer's quote, you're in the wrong place and should click here instead.

Your application will then be handed over to our 'New Connections' team who will assess the network and establish if your application can be accepted.

These applications mean we can check whether your property and the local network can safely handle the extra demand from potential installations.

If it can't, you may need a 'service upgrade'. This involves replacing the 'supply line cable' connecting your house to the electricity network, and/or installing a 'three phase service.' Occasionally, the local network won't have enough capacity and an application could be refused.

Next steps

The best option is to find out if your property can handle extra demand before you start shopping around for your new electrical installation.

This is where our paid-for service comes in.

DID YOU KNOW?

Induction hobs use a lot of power. If you're thinking about getting one installed in your kitchen, you'll first need to check if the power rating is higher than your current hob - if it is, you'll need to apply for additional load. Look for a sticker or rating plate either on the appliance itself (usually on the back, bottom, or near the power cable) or within the manufacturer's instruction manual which confirms the total power consumption in Watts or Kilowatts (kW)
