Substation upgrade in St Peters

Guernsey Electricity is replacing a key substation in St Peter’s over the next two months before the seasonal increase in electricity demand this Winter.

The new equipment is to be sited in the Rue du Felconte and Route des Adams area and will improve resilience and increase capacity in the local network, providing electricity to around 50 residential properties. The work requires the closure of Rue du Felconte from Tuesday 30 August to Thursday 03 November and Route des Adams will also be closed from Wednesday 14 September through to Wednesday 19 October.

Mike Lloyd, Head of Distribution at Guernsey Electricity, said, “This installation forms an important part of our continual investment in the Island’s infrastructure and is required to make the local electricity network more robust and resilient and has also been designed to meet the increasing demands of homes and businesses in the area. This work is also required to allow us to replace a faulty substation and needs to be completed before the demand increases in the Winter in order to maintain secure customer supplies in the area.”

This work will be completed in phases to minimise disruption as follows:

Phase 1 – Tuesday 30th August to Wednesday 14th September only the Rue du Felconte will be closed

Phase 2 -   Wednesday 14th September to Wednesday 19th October both the Rue du Felconte and the Route des Adams to be closed as the service is installed across this main junction.

Phase 3 - Thursday 20th October to Thursday 3rd November only the Rue du Felconte will be closed

Mr Lloyd added: “To minimise inconvenience, we liaised closely with Traffic & Highways and delayed the work as much as possible until after last week’s West Show. We appreciate your patience during this period, and our team will endeavour to minimise the disruption where possible.
